Miami Breast Cancer Conference Celebrates
25th Anniversary
It all started with a lumpectomy.
In the early 1980s, Daniel A. Osman, MD, was a Miami surgeon who had just begun studying European research about lumpectomies. “They weren’t popular in America at the time, but after reading through the European literature, I thought they were a good idea to promote versus a mastectomy,” he said.
Osman began performing lumpectomies in his practice and was so impressed with the results, he wanted to share them with his fellow surgeons. So he started the Miami Breast Cancer Conference 25 years ago. “That first year, we only had 90 people and I think 60 were just guests,” he said with a laugh. ...

Poster Reception to Showcase Caliber of Attendees, Conference
Forty different posters will adorn the Exhibit Hall at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort in Orlando, showcasing some of the latest research in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. At a reception tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, the authors will be available to discuss their work, and the top three abstracts will be honored. All of the posters will remain on display throughout the conference.
“This is the kind of poster session I’ve always wanted to have at MBCC,” said conference founder and course director Daniel A. Osman, MD.
“The excellence of these and other abstracts is a testament to the success of the conference and the caliber of its attendees,” added Osmans’ fellow course director, Debu Tripathy, MD. The Program Committee selected the winning abstracts.
“It was a tough call,” Tripathy said. “I really think the top abstracts are all very good and a great mix of translational and clinical material.” The winning posters include: ...

Minisymposium Contains Maximum Information
Miami Breast Cancer Conference Minisymposium includes a variety of late-breaking
presentations on benign breast disease, chemoprevention and the management of uncommon carcinomas.
A separately ticketed event, the program will be held from 12:50 pm-5:30 pm.
MBCC Course Director Daniel A. Osman, MD, said the presentations have become more concentrated. “This concept of the Minisymposium evolved many years ago. It used to be that each speaker had one-half hour to present, but now everyone has 15 minutes to address the most important
aspects of their topics.”
